Microsoft hatte im Rahmen des Patchday für August 2016 ein kritisches Sicherheitsupdate für Office 2016 für Mac angekündigt. Nun hat der US-Konzern heute das Security Bulletin MS16-099 aktualisiert und die Verfügbarkeit eines Sicherheitsupdates bekannt gegeben. Mit dem Update mit der Versions-Nummer 15.25 werden kritische Sicherheitslücken behoben und die Sicherheit der Software erhöht. Darüber hinaus stellt Microsoft mit diesem Update auch die 64-bit Version von Office 2016 für Mac zum Download bereit. Über das Office Insider Programm konnte die 64-bit Version bereits seit Längerem getestet werden. Das Update auf die Versions-Nummer 15.25 setzt ein Mac mit OS X Yosemite 10.10 und höher voraus und kann ab sofort über Software-Update geladen werden. Dieses Sicherheitsupdate behebt Sicherheitslücken in Office 2016 für Mac. Die schwerwiegendste davon kann Remotecodeausführung ermöglichen, wenn ein Benutzer eine speziell gestaltete Datei öffnet. Ein Angreifer, der die Sicherheitslücken erfolgreich ausnutzt, kann beliebigen Code im Kontext des aktuellen Benutzers ausführen. Für Endbenutzer, deren Konten mit weniger Benutzerrechten konfiguriert sind, kann dies geringere Auswirkungen haben als für Benutzer, die mit administrativen Benutzerrechten arbeiten.

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Office file. To learn more about these vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS16-099. Office 2016 for Mac includes versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint that are designed for the Mac. The August 22, 2016, update provides fixes for issues in the Office 2016 for Mac Suite that affect Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Improvements and fixes
This update provides the following fixes and improvements.
Outlook
- 64-Bit Outlook: Enjoy improved reliability when you work in Outlook.
- View simplified summary cards in your travel confirmation and package delivery emails, and in your calendar. For Office 365 subscribers only when using Office 365 and new or upgraded Outlook.com accounts.
- Add the at sign (@) followed by a person’s name to the body of an email or calendar item. That person will automatically be added to the To line of the message. For Office 365 subscribers only.
- Calendar view now shows the correct day and event.
- Removed duplicate organizer in the schedule assistant view.
- Fixed the default font preferences for plain text messages.
Excel
- 64-Bit Excel: Enjoy improved application performance and reliability when you work with very large files.
- Find and fix accessibility issues in your spreadsheets by using the Accessibility Checker on the Review tab.
Word
- 64-Bit Word: Enjoy improved application performance and reliability when you work with very large files.

OneNote
- 64-Bit OneNote: Enjoy improved reliability when you work in OneNote.
- Select what happens when your stylus is detected. Automatically switch to drawing, or keep using the stylus as a mouse.
AutoUpdate 3.6
- AutoUpdate no longer prompts for the local administrator password when it installs updates.
