Sun Microsystems hat das ODF Plug-In für Microsoft Office 2000, 2002, 2003 und 2007 in einer neuen Version veröffentlicht. Bei Sun steht ab sofort die Version 3.2 des Sun ODF Plug-Ins für Office zum Download bereit. Das Plug-In ist ein Paket von Import- und Exportfiltern, die Word-, Excel- und PowerPoint 2000, 2002, 2003 und 2007 in die Lage versetzen, OpenDocument-Dateien zu lesen und im Open Document Format zu speichern. Das Open Document Format ist ein offener Standard für Texte, Tabellen, Präsentationen und andere Office-Dokumente.

Nach der Übernahme von Sun seitens Oracle, steht das ODF Plug-In 3.2 für Microsoft Office bei Oracle nicht mehr kostenlos zur Verfügung… Oracle, seit der Übernahme von Sun auch Eigentümer der Rechte an dieser Software, will das ODF Plug-In 3.2 für Microsoft Office nur noch gegen eine Lizenzgebühr von 90 US-Dollar oder 65 Euro je Benutzer herausgeben.

The new release of the ODF Plug-In, version 3.2, supports ODF 1.2 and improves the import and export of ODF files into Microsoft Office, increasing the interoperability of the Plug-In. Also new to this release is the ability for users to disable the ‚Registration and Update‘ feature.
